A bespoke two storey family home set in a rural context, on the outskirts of Galway City, located on a hill side with the front of the house north facing with beautiful views of Lough Corrib while the back is south facing and the terrain rising sharply. Given the site particulars we’ve endeavoured to design a layout that maximises both the orientation and views by breaking the building mass to work with the sloping site levels and thus taking advantage of both the north facing view of the Corrib and the southern aspect at the back to maximize solar gain and natural light. In terms of external finishes the intention is to use white render, locally sourced random rubble stone cladding and a small area of zinc cladding to achieve a modern-vernacular aesthetic.
