NEWTOWNSMITH - ASSISTED LIVING ACCOMMODATION

NEWTOWNSMITH, GALWAY

Refurbishment of existing accommodation to deliver 26 No. en-suite bedrooms and communal facilities

The development consisted of the refurbishment of an existing building that was constructed in 1980 and while structurally sound the existing internal layout no longer met the requirement of the aging residents. The proposed internal layout has been designed to provide larger bedrooms with more generous circulation space within the rooms for less able residents.
A full four storey glazed bay window set in the corner of the front, western, elevation that accommodates the communal, shared living space for the residents on each floor. Is a simple contemporary glazed box with no strong element to draw emphasis away from the adjacent Fr. Daly chapel Facade and frames beautiful views of the Salmon Weir Bridge and the Galway Cathedral. The glazed bay, mirrors the form of the grey rendered bell tower opposite, without competing with it.
