MIXED USE QUARTER AT PORT DUNDAS, GLASGOW, UK

GLASGOW, UK

Port Dundas is located north of Glasgow in close proximity to the City Centre. This feasibility study and concept design proposal was prepared for a site that is part of the Glasgow Canal Regeneration Project that aims to transform the canal into a fantastic waterside environment that will bring benefits to those living and working in Glasgow, whilst providing special destinations for visitors to the city. The site is an island bound by the canal and our proposal is for a complex of buildings that could become a waterside destination with a high design standard that will create an attractive place to live, work or visit.

The uses at ground floor level are proposed to be active uses such as: retail, cafes, restaurants, leisure, entertainment and business, to give the area diversity and vitality and increase its attractiveness to residents, businesses and visitors, including those travelling by boat. Being an island site this provides a special quality and thus the enclosed public space could become a large external events space and thus a focal point for the entire Port Dundas Neighbourhood. The upper floor uses are proposed to include a hotel, leisure and high quality offices and residential units. This will generate a positive and dynamic environment and help secure the area as a whole.
