MIXED USE NEIGHBOURHOOD AT BRIARHILL, GALWAY

Development consisting of Housing, a Nursing home, a crèche and neighbourhood centre retail facilities at Briarhill

The area is inside the boundaries of the Draft Briarhill Action area Plan. Briarhill Area is identified in the Galway County Development plan as an important settlement due to its proximity of the city and the existing industrial, commercial and residential uses.

The proposed development comprises of a mix of housing sizes and forms in order to cover a range of demographics and to create variety and interesting open space, with a dedicated area for the neighbourhood centre which will provide community facilities and a limited amount of retail and office. Set upon the best principles of place making and the ideas that will lead to the creation of a distinctive place, the overall design approach has been to promote: variety by allowing for a good mix of activities; permeability by allowing for pedestrian/cycling connections between future development and establishing a clear set of specific design principles and guidance that have formed the basis of the Urban Design Framework.
