Church, Sports Hall with changing rooms and community centre facilities

The east of Galway city has seen a considerable increase in the population and in particular the Doughiska neighbourhood. With the increase in the population come demands for social and community facilities. Our practice has been asked to prepare a feasibility study and concept design proposals for a community centre to be located in the heart of Doughiska adjacent to existing playing pitches. Although an unusual combination of uses in our concept proposal the Church element of the complex became the feature façade, the aesthetically pleasing element fronting the main access road helping to break down the bulk and soften the visual impact of the large volume required for the sports hall.
