Proposal for a 4 storey apartment block with retail at ground level on a brown-field site. We’ve opted for robust external finishes, in a range of contrasting colours and textures, drawn from the local vernacular, to separately identify individual heavy elements of the proposed building, this has resulted in the breaking down of the external envelope into a number of legible contrasting panels. These elements are subsequently stitched together using lightweight glass & steel connections, such as balconies and full height glazing. We’ve combined areas of light and shadow created on the elevations, which have the additional benefits of providing privacy and shading to the extensively glazed external balconies as well as visual interest/relief.
